How to clean your VFFS and bundling machine

To be in charge of a packing station involves some attention with daily activities. The cleaning of the VFFS and baling machine is of the utmost importance, both for the good efficiency of the equipment and for the quality of the packed product.

This care needs to be periodic to reflect positively on the future of the equipment and the industry.

How should the cleaning process be done?

Remember that the power must be turned off and disconnected to clean the machines, as this ensures the safety of the operator and the equipment.

Now follow the steps:

1. Disconnect the power supply of the machine using a padlock on the main switch to prevent that another person restarts the equipment.

2. Disconnect the pneumatic supply of the equipment using a padlock.

3. Remove the mechanical guards (if any).

4. Use the cleaning gun to remove the dust. Remember to always use the PPE’s.

5. Clean the machine observing manufacturer’s recommendations. Do not use water jets on the equipment! It can damage electronic and pneumatic components. Remember that it is not necessary to clean inside the electrical panel. Contact of liquids or detergents with electronic and pneumatic components must be avoided.

6. To dry, use a dry and soft cloth.

7. After cleaning, grease the components that need lubrication, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

8. Return the mechanical guards to their respective locations.

9. Turn on the electrical power and pneumatic of the equipment.

10. Check all safety devices.

11. Make some empty bags / bundles.

12. Check if there is any fail with the equipment.

13. If everything is ok, start the automatic cycle with product.

Paint cleaning

When the equipment is painted with powder paint, cleaning should preferably be done with a neutral detergent, avoiding the use of “heavy cleaning” products.

In extreme cases, use a solution of 7 parts of ethyl alcohol and 3 parts of water, as long as the part does not stay in contact with this solution for a long time.

Contact with oxygenated solvents such as acetone and thinner should be avoided, as can damage the paint. Abrasive cleaning products should also be avoided, as well as acidic or alkaline solutions; even if diluted as: sanitary waters.

Steel sponge type will cause scratches and loss of shine. Automotive waxes can be used without problems. In matte products there is a significant increase in gloss after polishing.

Water jets and chemicals cleanings are prohibited for cleaning the electrical panel and pneumatic system. Failure to observe this item may cause damage to the pneumatic cylinders, as well as damage to the electrical system of the equipment and mechanical devices.

The air gun can be used for surface cleaning of the equipment, however, observe if the air quality is in accordance with the technical specifications.

CLEANING THE TRACTION BELT

To clean the traction belt, use ethyl alcohol with a soft cloth. But, as it is highly flammable, take care to handle the alcohol.

The cleaning of the belt must be done following these recommendations:

1. Disconnect the power supply of the machine using a padlock on the main switch to prevent that another person restarts the equipment.

2. Disconnect the pneumatic supply of the equipment using a padlock.

3. Wait for the sealing jaws cool down to room temperature.

4. Open the traction system using the “drive belt traction” button on the panel.

5. Open machine’s door.

6. Remove the traction belt protection.

7. Open the vertical seal bar.

8. Using a cloth with ethyl alcohol, press the area of ??the traction belts, removing the dirt with a dry cloth.

9. Manually rotate the belt to continue cleaning.

10. Repeat the last steps until cleaning is complete.

Cleaning the VFFS or bundling machine is just the beginning! Preventive maintenance tasks are just as important as cleaning for good performance. Therefore, we are always bringing tips to improve and increase your business.
